Gold for the black
No-Li Brewhouse is bringing home more hardware from an international beer competition.
The Spokane brewery won three medals at this year’s Brussels Beer Challenge in Belgium, in awards announced today:
– Gold for Blackfill Imperial Stout – a limited-release version of Wrecking Ball aged in Dry Fly whiskey barrels – in the wood/barrel-aged category.
– Silver for Rise & Grind, a lighter coffee/oatmeal/milk stout, in the coffee beer category.
– Honorable mention for Spin Cycle Red Ale in the strong/extra special bitter category.
No-Li previously took silver medals in Brussels in 2012, the competition’s first year, for Spin Cycle (then called Crystal Bitter) and the former Silent Treatment pale ale.
There were 725 entries this year, up from 592 and 498 the previous years, from 25 countries. They were judged in 50 categories by a group of 61 beer writers and professionals from around the world.
Other U.S. breweries winning three or more medals were Boston Beer (Samuel Adams), six; Ballast Point, five; Deschutes, four; and Anderson Valley, Oskar Blues and Pelican, three each.
In addition to Brussels, No-Li has also won medals at overseas events including Japan’s International Beer Competition, the European Beer Star Awards and Australian International Beer Competition.
