From the Food That Boggles the Mind File

Dan Webster

I admit that I shop regularly at Huckleberry's. I also admit that I've had my issues with the place. For one thing, the prices aren't something anyone on subsistence budgets can afford. For another, the restaurant — run by, I assume, well-meaning people — sometimes feels a bit service-challenged. If you know what I mean.

But as I was looking for some decent pieces of meat the other day, I saw the above sign. And it stopped me cold. I mean … really? Isn't that a contradiction of terms? Isn't vegan (which means, literally, no animal products) really just a code word for healthy? And what's less healthy than a cream puff?

Then I realized: Either someone at Huckleberry's has a great sense of humor, or someone who shops for the bakery there has an amazing culinary imagination.

Either way, I just had to share.
